Wise Counsel
Pastor Amie
I think I’ve gone through every phase of vehicle. I had the beater first car, the cool car you bought in your 20’s, and then the minivan you swore you’d never purchase when you became a mom. What’s funny is that the minivan was one of my favorite vehicles. It was so practical. There was only one problem. I wrecked it three times! Perspective was an issue for me. I never got the hang of its size and as a result I underestimated or overestimated every turn, stop, and corner. Despite Tom’s pleas that I take wide turns, and remembered the back end when changing lanes, I thought I had it and pushed his advice off as suggestions.
One time I hit the back wall of our garage because I thought I had plenty of space to pull in. Another time, I bent the entire left fender coming out of that same garage because I thought I had enough room to start turning. The final straw was when I hit Tom’s truck the day someone was coming to purchase it because I misjudged the turn into my driveway where his truck was also parked. Tom made me sell it after that. It was just better for our marriage.
“A fool’s way is right in his own eyes, but whoever listens to counsel is wise.” -Proverbs 12:15
It’s so easy to think we have everything under control only to find out our perspective is skewed. The truth is we all have blind spots, and wise people seek to understand how to overcome them to avoid accidents and hang-ups in life. Instead of pushing people off who just want to help you, what if we listened with gratitude to those who think we’re worth the investment?

Loved today's addendum to yesterday's message. Good onya, Amie (said in my best Aussie accent, which BTW is not nearly as good as the accent of my lovely wife, Helen!)
