Hard Blessings
By: Pastor Amie
“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.” -Matthew 5:11
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus flipped upside down how we see hard people. Jesus said “Blessed” are those who are willing to endure unfair treatment to faithfully follow Him. Blessed are those who take up their cross and walk in the footsteps of our Savior! We are BLESSED when we endure things that are undeserving.
We are empowered by the Holy Spirit to exhaust kindness! We can exhaust self-control! We can exhaust patience even with those who are hard to love! I’ve heard it said, “following Christ is like going the wrong way up a crowded escalator.” It pushes against culture.
There will be people who ridicule you as you choose the path less traveled. In these moments, we carry our cross knowing we are blessed.
When you look like Jesus, you will both rub against the world and draw those from the world in. The message is both convicting and compelling. Carry your cross with humility, with conviction, with confidence, and with love. Your cross is not a weapon of hate, for now it reveals a means of grace.
