Proclaiming His Name
By: Pastor Shane Beauvais
Over the past four months, I began texting devotionals to my adolescent children. In a fast-paced, technology-filled daily rhythm, I believed that creating a group message titled “Walking with Dad on a Wednesday” would be dorky enough to get their attention yet sincere in a way that reminds my children how much I love them.
As I pondered what to send to my children today, Holy Spirit placed Psalm 105 on my heart, specifically verses 1-3.
“Give praise to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.” Psalm 105:1-3
Wow! When I read this Psalm, I was stopped in my tracks! Proclaiming His name, and giving praise, are areas of worship I connect with often. However, what became apparent was convicting. Making known among nations, making known within my daily relationships, and sharing all His beautiful acts with those outside of my church community happens occasionally, but I know sharing in this context is not the first thing on my mind. How careless am I to think that eternal life is feasible, yet sharing all His beautiful acts is not a priority?
This lack of “making known” is not intentional, but it is evident how my daily rhythm can place blinders on me if not careful. Eugene Peterson wrote, “The psalmist’s and the Christian’s waiting and watching—that is, hoping—is based on the conviction that God is actively involved in His creation and vigorously at work in redemption.” Wow! How many has God intentionally placed in my path who are waiting and watching, hoping for something more?
How can we be more intentional about making God known to those around us? God always gives us connection points! However, we must enter each day expecting such moments to recognize them! Holy Spirit moments are powerful! Holy Spirit moments, when shared, stir hearts, both inside and outside of the church, and it would be such a gift to see the hearts of others seek Him because we rejoice, making known among the nations what He has done!
