The Heart of Ransom
By: Pastor Amie Donovan

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life-a ransom for many.” -Mark 10:45

This idea of ransom refers to the price paid to release a slave. Stop and think about that.

Jesus gave His life as a price for our freedom.

The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve us. Reflect on this truth.

Jesus came to serve you. Jesus came to serve me.

The God of all Creation. He, who laid the earth's foundation, walled in the sea, made garments for the clouds, gives order to the morning, and sends the lightning bolts on their way. (Job 38) Jesus, who commands the wind to cease, the dead to live, and the lame to walk. Messiah, who saves us from oppression, restores our hearts, and reconciles us to Himself!

This very God is FOR us.

He desires to serve us, knowing we cannot get what we need on our own.

I’m willing to guess you feel enslaved to something. Maybe it’s your addictions, maybe it’s your obsessions, maybe it’s your possessions. Maybe your whole life you’ve lived under the notion that God is in the sky somewhere, looking down at you and rolling His eyes,  wondering when you’ll ever get it right. Maybe that thought is what enslaves you.

That’s a lie from the pit of Hell.

Our Savior wants nothing more than for you to hit your knees, confess your shortcomings, and allow Him to transform you into the person He has created you to be. He is not rolling His eyes; He has stretched out His arms. What will you do with the freedom you’ve been given?

“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” -Joshua 24:15
