“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” -Ephesians 4:2-3

How do you react to the faults of others?

It is so easy to fall into the trap of comparison and condemnation, isn’t it? In the name of “accountability,” we can place ourselves in a seat that isn’t ours to occupy. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 4:4, “…It is the Lord who judges.” So, if we are not the ultimate Judge, what is our role in the lives of others? Maybe you ask yourself…

How do we spur one another on without judging them?

The Apostle Paul lays the framework when speaking to followers in Ephesus. He recites the fruit of the Spirit. When navigating people, we are to be gentle. We are to be patient. We are to bear with one another in love. When this becomes your lifestyle, unity follows, and transformation begins!

We are to be for others, not against them.

John Maxwell once said, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

When someone you love is stepping into something harmful, we must address their soul before we address their sin. Help them understand that God loves them. He is patiently pursuing them. He is gently whispering an invitation to something so much better than what they’re settling for.

Often, we reveal this by going first.

When we are patient, when we are gentle, when we bear with one another in love…. We’ve never looked more like Jesus.
