Real Life Devotional Series “Hunger” – Week 2 - Saturday – Pastor Todd
Get Real
Psalm 119:97-100 (NIV)
Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies. I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes. I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts.
The Bible is painfully honest. In it we find not only a reflection of the love of God, but a rather honest reflection of humanity as well. It’s wild that sometimes we can learn from God’s Word by doing exactly what others God followers did, but then other times we learn from doing exactly the opposite. The good news is this should keep us from hesitating to read God’s Word because we think we are only going to encounter superheroes of the faith. Rather, we meet people just as broken as ourselves who find strength, direction, forgiveness, and purpose in following God’s ways.
David tells us that following God’s commands will make us wiser than our enemies, will give us more insight than our teachers, and more understanding than the elderly. (Psalm 119:97-100) That is not an arrogant brag, but a promise of what a life built on God’s Word will look like. I don’t have to make the mistakes of others to learn- I can read them and avoid them. I don’t have to start from ignorance in difficult situations- I can discern truth by knowing God’s Word. So stop looking everywhere else for wisdom to live in the “real world” and get it from the most “real” book you will ever read.
