Killing Me Softly 1.26.21

Killing Me Softly Devotional Series – Week 3 – Blaming - Tuesday - Amie Donovan
We are the problem - Not God.

Scripture Reading –  Matthew 25:24-25 (ESV)

Throughout the current sermon series, we have read the parable of the bags of Gold. The most interesting thing I have learned was the misinterpretation of the one bagger's view of his Master. He says to him when questioned on his responsibility,
"Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, you have what is yours."

The bagger's problem was not his Master. His problem was within himself. The baggers' view of his Master came from a place of fear over a genuine reverence of whom he serves. Let us apply this parable to our view of God. King Solomon reminds us in proverbs 9:10, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight." Fearing our God has more to do with how we worship (live for God) than a fear of death or wrath.  When we serve our God as Christians from a place of misappropriated fear, we are operating from ourselves and with selfish motives. Therefore, we will always be the thing that holds us back.
Our acts, in a way, become where we anchor our salvation if that is our mindset. Spiritual fear of God has more to do with understanding the character of whom we serve. It comes from the knowledge and wisdom of The Holy One, as Solomon expressed. Fear of the Lord means to worship him (to live for him) with the reverence and awe that God deserves. To live this way requires us to acknowledge his goodness and respond to it.

When we know whom we serve, our response will always be to multiply what He gives us in response to His goodness. To blame God for our lack of response is a problem within ourselves and reveals our lack of knowledge in who HE is. If you find yourself a one bagger today, may I help you see whom you serve in the right light?

Revelation 1:8, "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "Who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty."

Psalms 71:19 "Your righteousness, O God, reaches the high heavens. You who have done great things, O God, who is like you?"

Romans 11:33 "Oh the depths of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!"
