You’re Valuable To Him!
By: Anna Williams

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;  your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!”.
-Psalm 139:13-17 NIV

This Psalm was my grandmother’s favorite. In fact, she asked for it to be read at her funeral service. It has always been dear to me as a window into the special relationship that King David had with God. But sometimes, it has been hard to read.

When I contemplate this truth that God in his Sovereign Will knit together my child with an extremely rare missense mutation in a gene that is vital to proper brain function, it stings. We can have conversations about whether it was a direct action or a result of this dying, sin-filled world but at the end of the day, I believe He can intervene but in His perfect wisdom and will, has chosen not to at present.

So how do I reconcile these thoughts and feelings? I fall back on the knowledge that some things are beyond my understanding, but I believe that God loves me. I believe that He loves my daughter – even more than I do. That’s where that last passage here comes into it. David recognizes that a vast amount of thought went into his creation and God’s plans for his life. He TRUSTS that God loves him and is working things together for his good.

Do you struggle with physical limitations, or the way others treat you because of your appearance? Have you allowed others’ perceptions of you to speak into the way you value and see yourself? Dear Friend, Jesus died for you to free you of these lies. God made you – exactly as you are – because he loves you and has a plan for your life. You don’t need more self-confidence; you need God-confidence. I challenge you today to meditate on Psalm 139 and to ask Holy Spirit to show you how valuable you are to your Heavenly Father.
