How To Have Our Mind Transformed
By: Shirley Davis
We read in Romans 12:2 that we are to be transformed by the renewal of our mind so that WE can prove what is the perfect will of God. If we truly want to know and understand more of God, we must let Him change and renew our mind! This does not come easily if we are used to studying and analyzing information, having educated debates, or making our own decisions. With today’s technology we can research everything and then come up with our own conclusion. So, how can we let go of that control and allow our mind to be transformed by God?
Paul addresses this subject very clearly in 1 Corinthians Chapter 2. He says that without the Holy Spirit it seems nonsense to give up that control and allow our mind to be changed (v.14). The previous verses describe to us how the Holy Spirit reveals the understanding and wisdom of God – and he will do this for us!
v.11 says “Now we have not received the spirit [that belongs to] the world, but the [Holy] Spirit Who is from God, [given to us] that we might realize and comprehend and appreciate the gifts [of divine favor and blessing so freely and lavishly] bestowed on us by God.” (AMPC) The Holy Spirit transforms our mind and understanding by helping us recognize and appreciate the many gifts and blessings given to us by God.
So how can we receive the Holy Spirit and allow this to happen? Jesus spoke often of the Holy Spirit and gave very clear teaching to his followers during the Last Supper in John Chapters 14 and 16. Many years ago I spent time studying these chapters, and I learned to see the Holy Spirit as truly a PERSON sent to help and comfort me, and guide me into the truth. It genuinely changed my life. Jesus tells us that all we have to do is ask and believe to receive!
Luke 11:13 “Even you who are bad know how to give good things to your children. So surely your heavenly Father knows how to give the Holy Spirit to the people who ask him.” (ERV)
