A Good Plan for the New Year

I imagine that I am not alone as we approach the end of 2023 and I look back to consider all that has happened during this past year. Whether considering the world or national stage, or just our own personal experiences, we can recall highs and lows; times of excitement and rejoicing – and also times of anxiety or fear! Some events and experiences we could never, ever have imagined! Some we are perhaps still struggling to deal with. At times, our life on earth can seem so unpredictable and complex!! We continue to struggle for understanding – and there’s nothing wrong with that, but as Christ followers we don’t have to be overwhelmed by that struggle!
What an amazing relief it is to stop and remember that God Almighty, the Creator of everything, knows and DOES understand it all because He sees the whole picture! Not only that, but as Our Loving Father, He wants to take that care and worry from us just as a loving parent tells their child: “Don’t worry about that, I’ll handle it.” If we would just give it to Him and TRUST Him! For those of us who want to fix and control everything ourselves, it may feel like we are giving up….but I believe it is more like an act of worship as we make the decision to sit back and ALLOW God to handle these circumstances and emotions that are so very important to us!
In 1 Peter 5:7 we read “Casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].” (AMP)
As we move ahead into a brand-new year, we have hopes and plans but we also know that there will be unexpected challenges and new worries. Let’s make the decision right now to memorize and focus on this amazing verse that reminds us that NOTHING takes God by surprise, and we CAN trust Him to handle it all!
