Not Alone
By: Chrissy Cooney
When my youngest daughter was in middle school, she had the privilege of being in the all-county band. For one of the practices, the band met at a local high school. We were running late that day so instead of dropping her off at her middle school and letting her ride the bus with her bandmates to practice, I drove her to the high school to start her day. We were in the parking lot of the high school when she suddenly turned to me and said, “I’m scared to go in there by myself.”
“You’re not going in by yourself!” I told her, “I would never send you in there to figure that out all alone! I’m going to walk you in and stay with you until you get settled.”
I will never forget that conversation, because it was right then that the Lord spoke to my heart. He said, “And I will never send you anywhere alone either. I’ll never ask you to do anything without Me.”
Deuteronomy 31:6 says, “So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you, He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”
When we step into what God has for us - we never have to do it alone. He will personally be with us.
As a human parent, I can’t be everywhere with my children all the time; but God is not limited by human constraints. He can and He does go with us. His Presence means that we don’t have to be afraid, nervous, or apprehensive. His Presence means that we can talk with Him along the way. It means that He is there to hear us, and help us, protect us and provide for us. The road ahead may not always be easy, but with God going ahead of us we don’t have to fear or panic.
