Nevertheless

“Yet I will rejoice in the Lord!
I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!”
Habakkuk 3:18 NLT
“Mrs. Williams, we’re frankly amazed at how well you are handling all of this.” These were the words of the palliative care doctor standing in front of me.
He and his attending had just gone through the laundry list of medical issues and complications that had arisen from my daughter’s most recent setback. There were game plans to address some of them. Others were new territory for everyone. They needed to know the plan for life support if it became necessary…
“Yet” is a powerful word. It’s a shorter way of saying nevertheless but it has just as much impact. “Yet” is a choice we make to trust God and have faith.
If you read the verses leading up to this, you see that the prophet Habakkuk is writing amidst the context of war and famine caused by an invading army. Life is falling apart all around him, YET he rejoices in the hope that can only come from the God of Salvation.
I responded: “The only reason that I am not in a puddle of tears on the floor right now is because I believe that my God is with us in the midst of this and will give us the strength to walk through it.” And, He did. God worked in amazing ways and we were given more time with our little girl.
No matter what the circumstances around you appear to be, you can choose to stand firm in your faith and joyfully praise God.
