Focus on the WHO in your Life
Scripture Reading – Job 38:2-18 (NIV)

Church,
Do you ever have days where you get so focused on YOU, you forget the WHO in life? Let me explain. Job is a righteous man who sincerely loves God. However, hurt and confusion step in when God, in God’s allowance of profound suffering, begins to turn Job’s world upside down. Job, understandably, cannot comprehend why all these terrible things are happening around him and to him. He’s unaware of the conversation God had with Satan. A conversation about the temptation of a righteous man who wouldn’t fall in his faith no matter what obstacle came his way. Job didn’t know he was, in fact, that man. After chapters of Job yelling at God, though still entirely in love with him, this was our Creators response.

“Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me. “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone— while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy? “Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb, when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness, when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place, when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt’? “Have you ever given orders to the morning, or shown the dawn its place, that it might take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it? The earth takes shape like clay under a seal; its features stand out like those of a garment. The wicked are denied their light, and their upraised arm is broken. “Have you journeyed to the springs of the sea or walked in the recesses of the deep? Have the gates of death been shown to you? Have you seen the gates of the deepest darkness? Have you comprehended the vast expanses of the earth? Tell me, if you know all this.”

God is our amazing Creator, who knows all things and works all things out. From every grain of sand to every star in the sky, God misses nothing and knows everything. We worship in the easy, and we worship in the hard the same. Our faith can be a faith of resilience because we serve the God of Job 38.

Pray this with me today:
Father, may we worship you not only as our friend but as The Great I AM. -Amen
