Title: Oh, If I Had Listened
By: Kaleigh Hoschar
Do you ever think to yourself… oh if I had only listened?
Picture me at 23 and leaving Philadelphia at 6 in the morning to drive from Philly to Southern Maryland after visiting my now husband while he was away at college. Wow, did I think I had it all. Figured. Out.
It was going to take me 3 ½ hours to get there and I almost knew the route by heart because I had been back and forth so many times…
I had…
$20 in my bank account.
A broken phone charger.
A dying phone.
A half tank of gas.
And then… I got lost on my way back down.
Here is the kicker… I knew better. Because someone a lot wiser than me always told me to have…
More than $20.
A working phone charger.
A full battery on my phone.
A full tank of gas….
Proverbs 2:2 says “Making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding;”
Here we see that just as much as you make your ears attentive you need to practice understanding. Training your heart to take in what is good, sound advice. From people who have gone before you and from your own lessons learned.
I wake up every day and ask God to change my heart and make me a different person than I was yesterday. Teach me to love wisdom instead of scoff at it.
