The Throne of Grace
By: Pastor Bob Cooney
When I reflect on all that God has provided in my life, I am most humbled by the fact that He has given His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the price for my sin on the cross. It is only because of that sacrifice that I can come humbly before the throne and ask for forgiveness when I fall short – and, full transparency, that happens more often than I would like.
It is only because God loves us, in ways that we cannot fully understand, that we can be reconciled to Him in spite of our sin. If we sin – okay, when we sin – and we turn back to God in repentance, He is faithful to forgive. Peter knew this first-hand when he wrote, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.” (1 Peter 1:3, 4 NIV)
When we confess our sins, repent (that is, turn away from them), and ask for forgiveness, we can find rest and encouragement in the fact that He is faithful to forgive. Jesus was tempted in every way that we are – and He did not sin. He knows our struggles as humans and understands our weaknesses. It is because of this that the author of Hebrews wrote, “16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
Take a moment today to praise the Lord for His mercy and grace. Thank God that He helps us in our time of need. Praise Him for his salvation plan – and that we can STAND on His Word. It is true and He is faithful.
