At The Feet of Jesus
By: Lori Ennis
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;” 1 Peter 2:9
How does someone go from denying the Savior of creation not once…not twice…but THREE times to someone who proclaims we’re part of a royal priesthood–God’s own possession charged with leading with light?
We lay it all at the feet of Jesus Himself.
Which is exactly what Peter did that morning after Jesus was resurrected and prepared breakfast for his disciples.
Despite the fact that Peter had denied knowing Jesus before He was killed, and feeling horrible over doing so, Peter still even had a little bit of audacity in being ‘hurt’ that Jesus asked him if Peter loved Him three times as well.
I always find that so human…don’t we all sometimes act a bit offended when someone questions our Christianity card because maybe our behaviors didn’t line up?
But nonetheless, Peter lays it down and tells Jesus that he loves Him.
Then, Jesus not only forgives Peter in that instance, He charges Him to feed His sheep…to take lead and take care of His people.
And He once again tells Peter to follow Him.
The world will scream at you that your shortcomings and your failures and your inadequacies will never measure up to Jesus, and the world is right. We are human, and we won’t.
But we don’t have to. We simply have to lay it all at His feet. Be honest about our sin and failure and find redemption and restoration and grace in Jesus.
When we do, our sin and failure don’t have to haunt us. They’re bought and paid for with His blood and guarantee us into a royal priesthood for eternity.
That’s amazing grace!
