Dying To Self
Pastor Amie Donovan

Colossians 3:5 “Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual
immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.”

Do you wonder why you do the things you do? Especially when it comes to sin in your life?

Maybe,  like me, you ask yourself why you think those thoughts. Why you feel the need to share that story? Why you can’t just let that action or word go?

Do your struggles bother you? Does it make you question your very salvation at times? I know I struggle with where I’m not but feel I should be.

Paul penned these words in Romans 7:15, “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.”

Moments like these make me cry out, “heaven help me!” I ask God to make me so
uncomfortable in the things not of Him, that I can’t sleep. That I can’t experience peace.

That I can’t move forward before I address it head-on at the cross.

Paul commands the Christians in Colossae to put to death the things of their former self. There is urgency in his words! He said, “Die to it!” That’s an action word! The process of holiness in our lives is grown by Christ and submitted to by self. Action requires awareness! We must see where we are, know who we are, and know who to run too!

You will think thoughts you shouldn’t think. Die to it! Put that thought to rest!

You will desire things you shouldn’t want. Die to it! Put that thing to rest!

You will grow frustrated at things you shouldn’t. Die to it! Put that emotion to rest!

Rebuke it! You are a new Creation!

Live set apart.
