The Gate Is Narrow
By: Allison Hand

“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” Matthew 7:13-14

When I was in the Navy, I remember seeing these huge banners that said, “Integrity is doing what’s right, even when no one is looking.” They were in every hangar bay. It’s because we were F/A 18 fighter jet mechanics. And it would have been easy when no one was looking not to repair a part the right way or cut corners. If we worked that way when fixing these jets, we could potentially destroy an entire jet and, more importantly, put a human life at great risk.

Living in God’s Kingdom requires us to walk a path of integrity and right living.

First, because Jesus wants that for us–changed lives. He wants changed hearts who want to live obediently to Him.

But also because it leads to abundant life with God.

Submitting is hard. Giving up areas of your life is hard. Seeking His Will over your own will is hard. But not doing these things pull us far from God and destroys our faith.

Right before the verse you read above, Jesus tells his followers to ask and it will be given, seek and they would find it, knock and the door will be opened to it.  The “it” here, I believe, is Jesus.

Jesus knows we can’t do all of the above in our own power. Jesus knows the answer to doing the right thing all the time, living God’s way, is through Him.

When we ask, seek, and knock, we get His goodness. We get His strength. We get His perspective. We get His guidance. We get all of Jesus.

So, what circumstance or area in your life do you need to ask, seek, and knock in? Jesus is waiting.
