Integrity Matters To God
Pastor Amie Donovan
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” -Psalm 51:10
In 1 Samuel 16:7, we see what matters most to God when picking a leader for Israel. “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees; man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
Integrity matters to God.
There are two definitions given by Webster when it comes to the word integrity. To be honest and upright, as well as being undivided at heart.
If we think of a man after God's own heart, we naturally think of King David–the Shepherd boy turned King! You know the one, right? The one who lusted after, then slept with another mans wife? She became pregnant and then David had her husband killed. That’s the one. The one who penned the above psalm after the prophet Nathan confronted him about the affair.
“Create in me a pure heart, O God! Renew a steadfast spirit within me!” -David
You see, David knew what many of us discover. In life, when our actions don’t match the truth of our salvation, we must humble ourselves before the Lord and cry out, “Heaven Help Us!” We must ask God to do what only He can do!
Create in me a pure heart! Make my affections undivided so that I desire holiness more than anything else. We need God to give us a steadfast spirit, that we won’t fall at the sin sword of slavery any longer! Rather, we will surrender, repent, and submit to the truth we don’t live that way any longer! We have been renewed, redeemed, and set apart! If you find yourself divided, would you pray this prayer with me?
LORD, I NEED YOU!
