The Goodness of God (All The Time)
By: Melissa Beauvais
“God is Good!”
We hear this phrase often, and if you have been in church just long enough, you’ll often hear the response, “All the time.”
God’s goodness and greatness are not simply defined as what He does for us but quite simply Who He is.
The miracles, signs, provisions, and good seasons of life are the outflow of God’s character. He is good.
But so are the upsets, the rough seasons, and the unthinkable. He is still good.
If we equate the goodness of God with miracles or good seasons, or what He does for us, it sets us up to be let down.
For His Goodness is not contingent on circumstance. The closer we walk with God, we see His goodness all around us, despite what we might be going through.
God allows us to see glimpses of Eden right now. He reminds us through the laughter of a child, hugs from a loved one, a text out of the blue, unexpected kindness, the sunset on a January evening with colors that are indescribable; He is good.
In Psalm 23, David writes of this Goodness of God. Through the highs and the lows, God walks with David and leads him all the days of his life.
“Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord
forever.”
