Hunger For More
By: Pastor Amie Donovan
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” -Matthew 5:6
Don’t you love The Beatitudes? In the sermon on the mount-Jesus speaks into something far greater than earthly hunger and thirst. He is speaking into a hunger and thirst for righteousness. The intensity of these words alludes to a quench that if not satisfied will result in death. The need here is spiritual.
In ancient Judaism, righteousness meant, “to acquit, vindicate, restore to a right relationship.”
We are to hunger for, thirst after a right relationship with God.
I don’t need to ask if you’re hungry.
Of course you are. We all have a God-sized hole in our lives that we try and quench.
Some of us fail to acknowledge God alone is how to satisfy it. This leaves us pining for power, position, promiscuity, and poison. Never realizing we’re slowly killing the potential of who God desires us to be in the process.
It’s not too late to change what’s on your plate.
Psalms 107:9 says, “For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, and the hungry soul He has filled with what is good.”
It’s time we stop hungering for things that lead us into slavery and start hungering for a relationship with our Savior!
