Overwhelmed
By: Lori Ennis

“God is our refuge and strength, and ever-present help in trouble.” (NIV) – Psalm 46:1

Do you get overwhelmed?
I do.
Pretty often, actually.
I’m a military spouse, though, so I have to admit that I’m pretty decent at covering it up and looking like I’ve got it all together.

Or at least I’ll get it all together.
The truth is, we all get overwhelmed.
Life is crazy.
People…well, people can do crazy things.
And when I’m overwhelmed, I’m a bit crazy too.

The world is loud and noisy and irrational and it is just too much sometimes.
And if you’re like me, it’s in that overwhelmingness that I put God on the backburner.
I’ve got too much to do, too little time to do it, and a million different people and personalities I’ve gotta work with.

It’s exhausting, and at the end of the day, I go to bed feeling not only spent but empty.

That’s the thing.
When we’re overwhelmed, we often turn off the MOST IMPORTANT Cup Filler there is–the Holy Spirit!
God promises that not only is He the strongest in our weakness, but that He is READY and willing and WANTS to go before us and take the weight.

I’ve been feeling even more spent than ever since Covid, and I’m guessing I’m not alone in that either. So this year, I’m changing it.

God’s not backburner.
I’m reading the Bible in 90 days. And then, maybe I’ll read it again in the next 90. I’m soaking it up as priority and I’m not just giving myself grace when I’m overwhelmed, I’m giving others more too because I bet they’re just as overwhelmed.
If there’s one thing I know about God, it’s that He is for us. And maybe most of all when we’re feeling overwhelmed.

So take a minute today and ask yourself what you’re feeling overwhelmed about and how He can take that weight off.

And then, maybe go to sleep a bit earlier. That never hurts when you’re feeling overwhelmed either!
