More of You
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled."
-Matthew 5:6
It would not be difficult for me to create quite a long list of things I hunger and thirst for. I am embarrassed to say that righteousness doesn’t naturally trend toward the top of that list. In my own selfish, self-serving fleshly mode, I will seek a lot of things and experiences more than God.
Fasting reminds me to reorient. A hunger pang can bring up the question, “why again am I doing this?” And my heart cries out, “because I want more of, I need more of God!” Ask yourself that question again today, “Why am I doing this?”
Pray with me. God help me not to fast and pray just because I should or because I was asked to, or for any other lesser reason. I hunger and thirst so that I might be filled with more of you.
