Keep it to Yourself
As a reminder, this week we are focusing on a scripture and then asking a follow up question. Hear the words of Jesus.
But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
-Matthew 6:17-18
What if during this fast we kept what we were doing as quiet as possible? We avoid saying out loud “man I miss that cheese so much!” or “Did you know I am now off social media for 6 days and it is killing me?”
Why do you think Jesus was so insistent that we work to keep these things between us and God? What does that say about the importance of our motivations?
Pray with me. Jesus, I want you alone to be glorified in this fast. May you alone see me and hear my prayers.
