A Feast For Your Soul
By: Pastor Todd Crofford

In his classic trilogy “Lord of the Rings” J.R.R Tolkien captures Bilbo Baggins expressing his exhaustion to the wise Gandalf.

He says it this way, “I know I don’t look it, but I’m beginning to feel it. In my heart I feel thin- sort of stretched; like butter scraped over too much bread.”

Ever feel that way?  You can put on a good face and suck it up, but there doesn’t feel like there is much left in your spirit to really sustain you? Sometimes a week can just really beat you down.

This last Sunday we spoke of getting into a quiet place, away from everyone else, but with God to sustain us in the inner man.  Let me offer one more place where we get filled up and move past that “thin-ness” of soul.  In the House of God. King David had learned this. He wrote,

Blessed is the person you choose and invite to live with you in your courtyards.
We will be filled with good food from your house, from your holy temple.
-Psalm 65:4

Do you anticipate church that way? Do you portray it to your spouse, your kids, your friends, that way?

After a week where we can be worn thin, here is a place where we are filled up with such good things.

This week I hope you won’t come to church because you must. I hope you will come because you can hardly wait for the feast for your soul waiting here for you.

I know I need it- I bet you do too!
