Why Fake It ‘Til You Make It?
“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.”
-James 1:5-8 NIV
I’ve never been much of a fan of “Fake it ‘til you make it!” I’m much more a believer in transparency and acknowledging where I fall short and what I don’t know. The first step to knowing something you don’t know is KNOWING that you don’t know it.
In humility, I confess to you that I often do not know what to do. Being willing to recognize I don’t is a huge step down the path toward the solution. Only prideful people think they always know what to do- and God is not riding in to help the proud. (See James 4:6)
I love how straightforward James is.
Don’t know? Ask God!
Why do we go so many other places for answers? You ask your friend, you ask your gut and you even ask Google!
James reminds us that God is waiting to answer us.
So I want you to try something with me. The next time this week you don’t know what to do or say (it will probably be today!), stop immediately and pray, “God show me what to do!” Then trust His answer and go for it!
