We Need Grace
By: Anna Williams
Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends.
-Proverbs 17:9 NLT
I don’t know about you, but I often need my loved ones to cut me some slack. As hard as I try to be everything my husband and kids need me to be, sometimes I get overwhelmed and fall short. I don’t respond with as much patience as I would like, and I lose my temper. But because we love each other, they extend grace and forgive my faults. Out of love for them, I try to be more patient next time.
Working through our shortcomings and overcoming them is a big part of relationship building, and that same concept applies to our walk with God. The Word says that before we ever knew him, God paved the way for our reconciliation with Him through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. Long before we were even conceived, He was making plans to befriend us – to love us.
I am so grateful that we serve a God who wants to forgive us because we desperately need it – at least, I certainly do! It doesn’t matter what your past deeds have been. Your hang-ups, emotional baggage and hurtful actions could never repulse Him or drive Him away. He wants a relationship with you and has pulled out all the stops to make sure nothing can get in your way to finding Him.
Wherever you are right now, you can stop and talk to Him – confess your sins and ask for His forgiveness. He wants to show you a love that you could never experience with anyone else.
