He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands

“He is before all things, and in Him, all things hold together.” Colossians 1:17
Do you ever feel like your life is falling apart? Like you couldn’t take another thing on if you tried, and if you had to make one.more.decision, or one.more.bad.thing happened, you’d seriously consider permanent residence in your bed under the covers?
I can’t imagine it’s just me. This world is overwhelming, and if you’re anything like me sometimes, you’re tired.
You’re weary.
You’re not sure how much more you can take without something falling apart.
If I could be so bold as to speak for how Paul must have felt at many times in his life, I’d venture to say he too could relate.
Which is why this writing of his to the Colossians is so encouraging. This was a small city he was speaking to, and if honest? He probably had the proverbial ‘bigger fish to fry’ with gospel issues he could address in other, bigger cities.
But showing us that our Father is for us all…and that no trouble or heartache is too small for Him to give great attention to, Paul encouraged the Colossians in their efforts to grow in their faith and their relationship with Christ. God’s love is not just the deepest; it’s the widest too, and though we may often feel far from Him, He is never ever far from us.
In fact, Paul reminds the Colossians that there’s NOTHING that happens in our lives He is not keenly aware of and has gone ahead of us in. And it’s in HIM that all things–including all the trauma and troubles and heartaches of our lives–are held together. In talking to the Colossians, Paul tells us that when we feel overwhelming pressure in our lives, and we feel like things are falling apart as we take each breath, we can trust that God still holds us.
In this world, we can’t escape broken marriages or dreams that never come to fruition or children dying before us…and we may feel like we lose pieces of ourselves in those circumstances.
But God promises us He will never leave us or forsake us…even in those situations…and we can trust He’s holding us and holding us together in it all. If you’re feeling like your life is falling apart, reach out to The One who holds it in His hands. He loves you and is eager to comfort and care for us all.
