Scripture Reading – Genesis 15:6 (ESV)

“And he believed the LORD, and he counted it to him as righteousness."

A few months ago, I studied the Pentateuch, the first five books of the Bible. While I took home countless lessons from this study, one thing stuck out most—Abraham's faith. Abraham was considered righteous by God. Though not for reasons we may assume. It wasn’t because he was willing to sacrifice his son or petitioned to save his nephew Lot. It wasn’t even because he moved whenever God said GO. It wasn’t an act of obedience that Abraham acted out, but rather because of a decision he made inside his heart.

Abraham was counted righteous because he trusted our Creator and had faith in him above all else. The response to that faith was obedience, and the fruit of his obedience was multiplication. The verse above provides us the core doctrine of justification which is faith apart from works. Abraham believed God would provide an offspring even in his old age, and because of that faith, God has blessed generations into our present day.

For the last two years as the Youth Pastor of Elevate, I’ve shared the same unchanging vision with my team. To see 100% of our teens completely sold out for Christ. We have prayed over them. We have cried over them and celebrated beside them. Despite any work we may have put in, it is their faith in God that has made them righteous with a hunger for holiness.

God has called students to vocational ministry, to stand up in their schools, to start bible studies in their homes, and live boldly unashamed of the Word. One by one, they have decided to follow Jesus. Their response to their faith has made them obedient, and the result of that
obedience is multiplication for the kingdom.

Pray this prayer with me today:
Father, would you give me faith like a child?
