You Get To
By: Pastor Amie Donovan

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”-Romans 5:8

Our young adult group is going through the book, “Crazy Love” by Frances Chan. This past week, we discussed how being in love with God is revealed and lived out in our lives. While many good conversations were had, some honest answers were given. One thought that hit me during small group is that I find myself trying to prove I was worth saving. I found I wasn’t alone in this cycle; rather a few people discovered when considering God's unrelenting love for us we felt as if we needed to make up for the imperfections and inadequacies in our lives. It’s not as if we are trying to earn our salvation; more, we’re trying to justify it.

Do you live out your love for God from a place of obligation or desire?

You’ll know that answer if you checkmark each act of service you complete. You’ll know by the joyful and giving heart you leave behind. You’ll see your true motive within the words you speak about how you worship.

Do you have to read your Bible, or do you get to read your bible?
Do you have to go to study, or do you get to go to study?
Do you need to make time for prayer, or do you get to sit with the Lord?

If you wrestled through any of these questions, know you are not alone. Today, let’s move past the thinking that binds us. Listen. God died for us while we were still sinners.

We don’t need to prove we were worth saving; we simply need to be reminded. So read, study and pray.

Not because you have to, but because you get to.
