Speaking Boldly!
By: Pastor Mark White
"Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.” Acts 4:29 (NIV)
Do you want to live & speak more boldly for Jesus? I know that I do!
To be able to step into situations and conversations that may push against my comfort level, that space where my fear goes unchallenged, so that Christ will be exalted in that moment.
So, let us pray for boldness! The early Christians did. After Pentecost, they did not always
feel bold. In fact, in Acts 4, when the disciples came back from the authorities, they told the church of the threats that they had received. Everyone understood the implications of
persecution and possible execution. What was amazing is that they did not shrink back into hiding?
No, they did just the opposite. They prayed for boldness! When they had prayed, the place where they gathered shook. Then they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.
In answer to their prayer, their fear melted, and they received a renewed boldness to keep speaking about Jesus. Most of us don’t feel bold every day. We have to keep praying for it whenever we need it. Even the apostle Paul experienced this. That is why he asked the Ephesians to pray that he "may declare the gospel boldly, as he ought to speak."
Lord, as we look for opportunity to share your name, we pray for boldness to speak it. Understanding that oftentimes opportunity comes to the bold. Amen.
