Allowances
By: Allison Hand
“Be patient with each other, making allowances for each other’s faults because of your love.” Ephesians 4:2
God has gifted us with so many wonderful things. One particular I am very thankful for are other Christ-followers that God places on the same path as me to walk beside me as we walk out our faith. I am so thankful I don’t have to do it alone here on earth. I have been so blessed by others who have loved, encouraged, and taught me over the years. And God has helped me to do the same back.
It becomes easy to hold those around us to a certain standard.
So when they mess up, we become disappointed. Let down. Angry even that they would behave in such a way that does not look the Christ-following Christian we thought they should be. Maybe we even hold our arms out to keep them at a distance.
Jesus is so patient with us as we make mistakes and learn to get it right over time.
And today we are reminded that others around us need that same patience Christ gives us. We are asked to make allowances for each other which says to expect that they will mess up.
Be ready for it, knowing that they, just like you, are also on a journey of learning how to live for Christ each day.
