Fully Known
By: Pastor Amie Donovan
“…I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so, I hid.” (Gen. 3:10)
Adam and Eve are walking in the Garden when everything changes. Arrogance takes hold of their heart, peer pressure captures their interests, and broken motives entice them into a fallen humanity.
The God of the Universe, who was both Creator and friend, finds them naked and afraid. “Where are you” the Lord cries out to his beloved, despite knowing exactly where to walk.
You see, the Lord knew where they were, but Adam and Eve needed to know where they were. They needed to see their truth. Amid their shame, God finds them and Adam replies: “…I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so, I hid.”
Sin leads to shame, and shame leads to hiding.
But God.
After the LORD reveals the truth of their choices, we get to verse 21. “The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.” While God doesn’t deny or hold back the consequences of their actions, He also covered them in Grace. The LORD knows us fully. He loves us deeply and He covers us eternally.
“It's so unusual, it's frightening
You see right through the mess inside me
And you call me out to pull me in
You tell me I can start again
And I don't need to keep on hiding
I'm fully known and loved by You
You won't let go no matter what I do
And it's not one or the other
It's hard truth and ridiculous grace
To be known fully known and loved by You

From those two broken people come you and come me. From these two broken people, the Messiah is born to fully restore what is broken and reconcile that same fallen humanity back into relationship with God. God uses the broken.
You are fully known, fully covered, and fully forgiven by the God of truth and grace.
