Humble, Not Proud
By: Allison Hand

Everything changes with Jesus.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

Did you know that monarch butterflies migrate 3,000 miles from Canada to Mexico? This super-long trip can only happen if the monarch goes through an incredible process of change. The word Paul uses in today’s scripture for “transformation” is the word we use today for “metamorphosis.”

A butterfly changes from a not-so-pretty worm-like caterpillar into the most beautiful, majestic winged creature.  What an amazing image of what God wants to do in our hearts and minds!

God doesn’t want to just change us a little here and a little there. He wants a radical, obvious change to where we no longer look like people of the world, but more and more like Jesus Christ.

The process of this life metamorphosis is not a one-and-done thing. We don’t just get before God and say “Alright, I am going to make better choices from now on, God.”

It takes time.

It takes us getting low and humble before God and asking Him where He needs to change you. We do this over and over again until we no longer recognize our old selves, and all the world sees is Christ in us.

Then we will truly fly.
