Make Me Holy
By: Pastor Todd Crofford
Years ago, Diane and I wrote a simple chorus called Make Me Holy. It was the second song we ever wrote together. It goes like this
“Make me holy as you’ve called me to be holy;
Cleanse my heart, cleanse my mind, and my body;
Lord, I want my life to make you smile;
To make you proud that I’m your child
More than anything I pray, make me holy.”
It was the cry of two young people. Thirty-five years later, with a whole lot more life under our belts, and we stand by it! While the Father’s love for us is not dependent on our holiness, I am convinced He is well-pleased when we are being formed into the likeness of His Son, Jesus. This is what God said He was up to when He saved us.
He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son.
-Romans 8:29 MSG
The Father declared He was pleased with his Son, and certainly He is pleased when we choose to become more and more like him. Like when God bragged on Job, we want Him to look down from heaven, tug the sleeve of an angel and say, “Check them out, look at what I am making out of them!”
