The God We Worship
By Pastor Amie Donovan
Recently, I’ve been studying the book of Daniel alongside two of my great friends. We read a chapter and listen to the commentary. Afterward, we get in our group chat and go crazy about all the connections God gave our minds. We share the unique concepts we’ve never caught before. This is one way I worship God. Through the reading of His Holy Word. Worshipping beside your friends is such an intimate encounter. Do you have friends you study The Word beside?
Daniel loved worshipping God in community. In Daniel chapter 2, King Nebuchadnezzar experienced a terrifying dream. He called in the diviner-priests, mediums, sorcerers, and Chaldeans of the kingdom to interpret its meaning but no one could.
Until Daniel.
Upon hearing of this dream and the king's need, Daniel went to his friends. Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah joined Daniel in prayer. They asked God to reveal what this dream meant. Daniel then received a vision at night and was able to tell the King. What was Daniel’s response to God’s answer? Praise. That’s often how Daniel and His friends worshipped God. Prayer followed by Praise.
“Praise be to the name of God forever and ever;
wisdom and power are his.
He changes times and seasons;
He deposes kings and raises up others.
He gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to the discerning.
He reveals deep and hidden things;
he knows what lies in darkness,
and light dwells with him.” -Daniel 2:20-22
How do you worship God?
Does praise follow your prayer time?
As Christians, we live in the truth that we are able to come to the Father in prayer anytime we want. Jesus took on the cross so we can walk in that truth every day of our lives. That reality is why I live my life as worship to our God. May even our hardest prayers be followed with cries of praise declaring the greatest name that’ll ever be! The name of The Great I AM!
