Nearer

Nearer

John 1:1-5 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it."

This passage in John reminds me of the song, King of Kings by Hillsong Worship.
"In the darkness, we were waiting
Without hope without light
Till from heaven You came running
There was mercy in Your eyes

To fulfill the law and prophets
To a virgin came the Word
From a throne of endless glory
To a cradle in the dirt

Praise the Father
Praise the Son
Praise the Spirit three in one
God of glory, Majesty
Praise forever to the King of Kings."

Jesus always was. Jesus always is. Jesus always will be. Before the uncreated God created the world, there was Jesus. Nothing is outside of His control, everything is created through Him, and apart from Him nothing was made.
Jesus is our King of Kings.
In Jesus is life, and that life is what brings us from darkness to light. John wants his readers to get something that will change their very lives.
Jesus is God the Son!
John knows Jesus. He has seen, heard, and walked beside Him as Jesus taught, performed miracles, and hung on a cross. He touched Jesus's hands. John took care of Jesus's mother in his final days. John was Jesus's friend. But Jesus…Jesus was John's salvation.
It doesn't stop there. Jesus, our eternal God, is our Immanuel. He is God with us.
Though I have never touched His nail-pierced hands or watched Him lay his head down to sleep, I have seen lives made completely new just by calling out His name!
As we close our series, The God I never knew, let's celebrate this truth- "In the darkness, we were waiting, Without hope without light-Till from heaven You came running. There was mercy in Your eyes!"
