Jesus – The God Who Hears Me
By: Anna Williams
“As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging.
When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord, I want to see,” he replied. Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.
- Luke 18:35-43 NIV
The blind man shouted ALL THE MORE when others rebuked him for calling out to Jesus. He was committed to speaking with Jesus and making his needs known. It didn’t matter whether people around him thought he deserved an audience or not. He was going to see it through.
I don’t know about you, but I want to be more like that. I want to drown out the negativity, the doubts and the fears by focusing solely on Jesus in persistent faith.
There are multiple examples like this of Jesus stopping the crowds of fans around him to focus on and minister to the marginalized and forgotten people of his day. What an amazing God we serve! He hears the pleas of even the least of us.
Is there some kind of challenge in your life that you have been afraid to ask Jesus’s help with? Or maybe you stopped asking because you couldn’t discern any sort of response in return. Let me remind you today that God is always listening and that He often works in ways we cannot readily see. Don’t give up – keep shouting ALL THE MORE.
