Peacemakers
By: Pastor Chrissy Cooney
This week (and as I write, it’s only Wednesday) I have heard people yell in my workplace every single day. On day one it was two coworkers with heightened voices because they were disagreeing, day two was an unhappy and very stressed customer who wanted to be understood, and just this morning - a woman was reacting out of fear because she witnessed a child in danger.
Truthfully, we all have moments just like these. We all have moments of anger, fear, or confusion. And while the feelings may be justified, nobody – NOBODY – likes to be on the receiving end of these emotions.
So my question for you today is, where can you be a peacemaker this Christmas season?
In Matthew 5:9 Jesus says, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
I don’t know about you, but I like the “child of God” status.
As we sing songs about peace on earth and goodwill toward men, and as we read scripture about the Prince of Peace coming as a baby, can we apply the act of peacemaking to our everyday world?
Can we drop that tone with our spouse and choose a less harsh reply?
Can we reach out to that family member with an invitation, or maybe take the first step with a “Merry Christmas” phone call?
Can we be the one to react with grace and kindness when the lines are just a little too long, or the cashier makes a big mistake, or the order was completely wrong?
Can we forgive, as Christ forgave us? Can we be the first to reach out, the first to drop the grudge, or just the first to smile?
