Obedience
By: Pastor Chris Wood

When Meredith and I lived in Delaware, we were working at Calvary Wesleyan, which used to provide a Thanksgiving Dinner to anyone in the town who would like one. The way this worked was we had people go out and place a door hanger in every mailbox in the city, and the instructions said, “if you would like a free Thanksgiving dinner dropped off at your house between 11-3 on such and such date, please leave this door hanger on your door.”
Our next-door neighbors put the card on their door. I will never forget that there was a family in our church who, when they went to the door, asked if they could pray for the couple.

That’s it… end of story…

Well, at least for the family from our church, it was the end of their interaction with our neighbors. What this family did was open the door for some of the sweetest interactions we ever had with neighbors in Meredith and I’s life. Our children became pen pals with them, writing notes and putting them in their mailboxes weekly. They began to buy toys for our children, and they said they did not have grandchildren of their own. Sometimes they would knock on our door just to say hi and come over to chat. When we moved, our children remained pen pals. In Acts 1:8, it says

8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Because of some faithful saints who were led by the Holy Spirit to pray for our neighbors, we were able to continue pointing them to Christ. Thank you, Gampp family, for being obedient to the move of the Holy Spirit. Be like the Gampp family, be obedient to where the Holy Spirit leads you
