The Established Path
By: Nicole Goddard
A handful of years ago, my husband and I committed to tithing. It started simply with the feeling that Christians are supposed to tithe and so we did. As time went on, we felt the conviction to honor God and be good stewards of the remaining 90% he’d granted us. We began to make some savings goals and eliminate debt, and we were astonishingly able to achieve them.
In the last two years, this obedience in tithing and financial stewardship began to run parallel to a new stirring we felt in our hearts as parents – to homeschool our children. Concerns over what homeschooling would look like for us and whether we could pull it off as full-time working parents seemed to safely land on where God was already leading our finances to. The “what if” and “how will we” prayers have been repeatedly answered with his provision over and over. He’s effectively removed any barrier holding us back from saying yes to this calling, showing us we can trust in him even when he shouldn’t have to.
He was establishing our path, long before we even had kids.
Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit your works to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
Friends, don’t just look at tithing as a box to check nor expect immediate miracles to happen in your checking account. However, do expect God to reward your obedience with his own faithfulness. As he calls you into new spaces, know that he has the “how?” already figured out.
