A Drink from the Well
By: Pastor Chrissy Cooney
What are you yearning for?
Sometimes our bodies tell us that we’re hungry when we really need hydration. This happens because a part of our brain sends out signals to the body about a vital need for water and, in trying to fill that need, our body responds by telling us to eat.
Like the need for physical water, we all have a vital need for the Living Water – our Savior. But as our souls yearn with hunger, we try to fill that void with other things like human relationships, power and position, material things, or habits that bring short-term pleasure.
When I was young, I pursued and landed my “dream job” only to find that it required more of me than I wanted to give, and it could never satisfy what my soul was searching for. That’s when Jesus met me right where I was and showed me that it was a relationship with Him that I lacked.
If we’re honest, even as we walk out our Christian lives, we can easily find ourselves trying to satisfy with the wrong things. We stuff ourselves with the approval of others, the need to be right, the drive to provide for our loved ones, or anything that might fill the void. What our soul is really longing for is a quiet conversation with the Holy One, a few moments of prayer or reading the Word, a drink from the well that never runs dry.
Psalm 107:9 says, “For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.” (NKJV)
Are you feeling empty today? Is your soul hungry? Jesus is waiting for you with Living Water. Turn to Him and ask Him to fill you with His love. He has everything that you need.
