Ends of The Earth
By: Pastor Todd Crofford
You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
-Acts 1:8 NIV
Have you ever been given a big job? I mean a colossal, monumental, enormous overwhelming type of mandate. That had to be how the disciples felt when Jesus kept stretching the borders of their responsibility.
Jerusalem… ok we aren’t popular here, but we can make it worth.
All Judea… Lord, some of us hadn’t ever been out of our home town before you came along.
Samaria… Jesus, now you are just being preposterous - you know how we feel about those people.
Ends of the earth… big sigh.
Have you ever thought about the fact that by the time every person who originally heard that great commission had died, they had not reached the ends of the earth? I don’t know if they understood this, but we do now- the responsibility to take the message of Jesus is passed on generation after generation. Jesus is speaking Acts 1:8 to us just as much as he was to them 2,000 years ago.
We have the privilege to get on board with this mission- To invest our resources and our lives in a Kingdom work that existed before we were born and will continue after we die. We have this short lifetime to give all we have and all we are to what really matters. I am SO down with this. Are you with me?
