Title: Rescued By Faith
By: Anna Williams
We must piece together the life of Joshua because it is spread over multiple books of the Bible. Before he became Moses’ successor as the leader of the Israelites, he was Moses’ companion, assistant, and spy to the Promised Land. He was closer than anyone when God gave Moses the Ten Commandments…twice. (Exodus 24 and 32)
“So Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute and her relatives who were with her in the house, because she had hidden the spies Joshua sent to Jericho. And she lives among the Israelites to this day.” -Joshua 6:25 NLT
“It was by faith that Rahab the prostitute was not destroyed with the people in her city who refused to obey God. For she had given a friendly welcome to the spies.” -Hebrews 11:31 NLT
Joshua was one of only two people who had enough faith to enter the Promise Land and then forty years later God gave him the leadership role to carry it out. He trusted that God would fulfill his promises. His life is a story of someone who followed God’s voice faithfully throughout his life.
In contrast, Rahab was born in a godless nation and lived a rough life. Yet when she heard of the miraculous works of the God of Israel, she cast all of that aside and risked her life to help his people. She begged for mercy and found it.
It doesn’t matter whether your past looks like that of Joshua or Rahab – God can use you. He waits for you to call out to him and once you do; your life will never be the same!
