10 Times Over
By: Kaleigh Hoschar
Ruth was an immigrant girl who married a man who died before they could have children. Who has nothing left but Naomi. In an age where a widow has no rights to land, money, or security.
She could have gone back to her homeland and married again. But she stayed by Naomi’s side. I would like to think for a moment that there was an immense love that Ruth had for her mother-in-law. That she found joy in serving her and being in her presence so much so that she couldn’t leave her side.
So Ruth is giving it her all. Gratefulness and kindness towards Naomi oozing from her. So much so that Boaz notices this woman who is working so diligently and offers her an opportunity to provide.
He says to her “May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.” Ruth 2:12
Was every moment of gleaning, caring for her mother-in-law, scraping by for money easy? Certainly not… but I can only assume by Ruth’s character that she did it with joy. Not expecting that she would receive anything in return for her kindness and labor.
Joy comes when we lay down what is comfortable for what is right. When we pick up someone else’s hard and carry the burden for a little while. When we see a need and we choose to fill that need 10 times over.
Boaz married Ruth.
He restored Naomi.
Ruth bears a son.
The land is restored.
The people around get to witness it!
Watch how generosity multiplies. You will find your own life being poured into 10 times over when you joyfully pour into others!
