Understanding Christmas
By: Pastor Todd Crofford
When did Christmas finally dawn on you? What it really meant finally sank in….completely. There were some realizations along the way. At some point we realized Christmas wasn’t Santa’s big scene, it was Jesus’. There was that point that we stopped thinking about getting gifts and loved giving them. Lots of great epiphanies along the way
But we really got Christmas when we moved from Jesus came to rescue the world to Jesus came to rescue ME.
How long did that take? Think of all those years when we rejected that. Yet God kept offering. He kept whispering through the candles and the lights and the carols. One day it clicked. Jesus came to reconcile me to God.
Perhaps there has been distance between you and someone else for a long time. Over time you have hardened to them. What if this Christmas you mimicked God’s position? Although there have been years without reconciliation, the offer is still open for them this year. Grab hold of the prayer Jesus taught us “Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.” (Matthew 6:12)
I know its unnatural. But it is so necessary. Prove you really understand Christmas this year. Take the leap of reconciliation.
