God’s Work in Progress
By: Anna Williams
Recently I had to do some soul searching after having an encounter with true malevolence. It wasn’t just one person or one act, but a conglomerate of actions and inactions that upset my entire view of justice and the perception of morality in our society. The people who were supposed to care and protect failed.
If you’ve had this type of experience, it can create doubts and almost a feeling of abandonment. As if our circumstances cast doubt on the very goodness of God. It can shake our beliefs to their core.
“Therefore let those who suffer according to God's will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.” – 1 Peter 4:19 ESV
I am so incredibly grateful that our Father doesn’t give up on us or reject us when we doubt him. He continues to pursue us with mercy and grace. Eventually, a decision is made. Do we believe God is good even when the circumstances seem to say otherwise? Yes, or no?
After a time of grieving and processing, I came back to the conclusion that my entire hope in life comes from God. Any difficulties around me are his work in progress. They don’t make sense because the work isn’t finished.
Are you stuck? Are you struggling with this decision to trust God’s heart even when you can’t see his hands? I pray that today you will meditate on all the past ways God has shown you goodness and resolve to continue moving forward in surrender to Him.
